Mad Cat's Try The Divide

[img_assist|nid=518|title=Mad Cat Bikes|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=168|height=200]On Saturday, Oct. 18, Mad Cat Bikes sponsored our monthly Try The Divide ride at the top of the Foresthill Divide Loop Trail. Over a dozen riders took off together and broke into smaller ability groups as they went. The longest group went to the end of the Connector trail. Most people just did the loop. Frankie warmed up the chili and was waiting for us when we returned. Go in to Mad Cat and thank them for supporting your club. Do not let a little rain scare you off from a great day of riding! Now that the weather is turning, we are starting our rides at 10 AM. Call us if it is raining, but plan on joining us next month.

Land Acquisition

[img_assist|nid=511|title=ARC|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=200|height=113]Tired of riding the same trails? Looking for some new experiences? Ever wondered what the South Fork American River Canyon looks like upstream of the Salmon Falls Bridge? The American River Conservancy (ARC) is looking for private donations to fund the acquisition of a parcel near the Salmon Falls Bridge over the South Fork of the American River. This 45 acre parcel is a critical parcel in building a multi-use non-motorized trail connecting the State Park facilities at Salmon Falls with the trail system at Cronan Ranch near Pilot Hill. Cost to acquire this parcel is $560,000 and the funding needs to be in place by December 15th of this year to close escrow. The good news ARC has found two State Agencies to provide $500,000 of public funds. The remaining $60,000 needs to be met

Bullards Bar Ride

[img_assist|nid=507|title=8 Ball|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=200|height=125][img_assist|nid=508|title=Swooping|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=200|height=125]About twelve riders rode the trails near Bullard's Bar Reservior on Saturday, Sept. 27. They started out at Dark Day boat ramp and quickly learned how dark it can be in the middle of the day. The trees are so thick that sunglasses are unnecessary (except to protect your eyes from branches)! The trail was so coated with fallen leaves that that it was like riding on ice. The beauty of the trail was that riders of all ability levels were able to ride as far as they wished. Some people...

FDLT Trailwork

[img_assist|nid=502|title=Trailworkers|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=200|height=150] On Sunday, Sept. 21 ten workers showed up on the Foresthill Divide Loop Trail to cut back brush along the Connector Trail. We broke into three groups and started at different spots along the trail. We were mainly aiming to cut the brush back from the edges of the trail so that riders did not get whacked as the rode by. Another goal of the brushing was to clear the sight lines around corners so that riders would be able to see oncoming traffic. The Connector Trail is such a well-built trail that riders going in both directions are able to maintain speed. Having clear corners is important to avoiding head on collisions. Now that the corners are clear, be sure that you are always riding at a safe speed so that everyone can enjoy the trail. Come out next month and help us maintain the trails that we all enjoy.

REI's Try the Divide

[img_assist|nid=503|title=REI|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=200|height=152]On Saturday, Sept. 20 REI sponsored our monthly Try the Divide ride. Almost thirty riders enjoyed a ton of food, some great trails and a lot of fun. The morning was a little chilly, but once the riders hit the trail the temperature was perfect. We are going to start our future Try the Divide rides a little later as the temperatures start to fall. Keep checking the calendar and come out on the third Saturday of each month for the Try the Divide ride.

Hope Valley to Dardanelles Lake

[img_assist|nid=501|title=Elevation|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=200|height=95]Here is a little report on the Hope Valley ride on Saturday, Sept. 13th. Our only regret was that more people didn’t take advantage of the prefect weather and beautiful mountain trails. Our ride, Hope Valley to Dardanelles Lake, started with a 2.5 mile, 1000 foot climb on a fire road followed by a fun single-track with a few technical sections down to Big Meadow (mile 5). We crossed Big Meadow and climbed a single-track through the trees. A few more descents and climbs took us to Round Lake (mile 7.5) – you’ve got to love the beauty of
